Meet the BPW Australia Board

Our Board consists of both Executive Officers and Representatives for State, Territories and Young BPW (under 35).  Teleconferences are held bi-monthly with an annual Face-to-Face meeting at various locations around Australia to give all members the opportunity to meet these women who work voluntarily on their behalf, taking action for women's' equality.

Club: BPW Central Coast -NSW

Margaret is a long-term member of BPW including the roles of BPW Australia Board Member as the NSW State Representative 2009-2013, the BPWA Constitutional Review Taskforce 2015-16, the BPWA National Conference 2013 Resolutions Committee and Past Editor of the BPWA Bulletin and BPWA Website Editor. 

She was also the NSW State Representative 2009-2013 on the BPW Australia Board and was the Club President of BPW Parramatta 2007-2009.

Margaret is a Manager in Community Sector Development with a Master of Community Management (UTS), Graduate Diploma in Community Management (UTS), Bachelor of Business Personnel & Industrial Relations (UWS) and has completed the Foundations of Directors Course, Australian Institute of Company Directors

Margaret has also held offices in other organisations including Continence Foundation of Australia in NSW Inc, Board Member and Past President; Animal Ethics Committee of the Children’s Medical Research Institute & Westmead Children’s Hospital, Category D Member; WESTIR Ltd, Treasurer; Local Community Services Association, Executive Board Member; Member of the Sector Development Forum of NSW Council of Social Service; and the Western Sydney University, School of Medicine Community Engaged Teaching and Learning Committee.

Margaret is a skilled and experienced governance-oriented woman.

Club: BPW Perth – WA

Jasmyn has been a member of BPW Australia since 1991.  Passionate about every woman having the opportunity to achieve her own ambitions and dreams, Jasmyn has supported and empowered many women through initiating new programs and by mentoring members. She was instrumental in setting up many new clubs in WA and believes there is a formula to follow that can replicated with the ready resources.  Jasmyn has implemented new facilities and materials to strengthen clubs and to support club management.with new ideas.

As Past Director of Communications she has been working with a team of enthusiastic members to bring electronic communications functionality and web-based opportunities to clubs and members. 

She believes that the internet is the great tool for gender equality change and that BPW has an opportunity to position itself as the trusted, reliable and accessible source of information relevant for women.  It is her belief that BPW can assist women to excel in their work, business and private lives by providing women with an environment of support, personal and professional development and reliable information on economic security. With this focus BPW Australia can remain relevant throughout career and lifestyle changes.

Since 1998 Jasmyn has been a Registered Debt Agreement Administrator for her business, Active Debt Specialists, assisting individuals, families and small business owners to negotiate a positive pathway to repay their debts and to keep their homes and businesses intact. She facilitates workshops for accountants and financial counsellors and has presented at the National Bankruptcy Congress.

Michelle Halvorsen


Club: BPW North Lakes - QLD

Michelle has represented Queensland on the National Board of BPW Australia since 2012. Since 2015 she has been a member of the BPWA Finance, Policy and Constitution Reform Committees.  She was previously the Secretary of BPW Caboolture club for two years.

Michelle is Financial Planner, Registered Tax Adviser operating her own business.

Also active in other organisations, she is the Treasurer of the Caboolture Neighbourhood Centre since 2012 and is an Associate of the Financial Planning Association and a Member of the Financial Ombudsman Service

Michelle is competent in calculations of financial and statistical data and sound financial strategy development for wealth creation/gearing and retirement clients, is computer literate in MS Office, Xplan, Iress risk software, Assirt, LTM and many other software packages and has a proven ability to make an effective contribution to the performance of a team.

Strong time management, organisational and coordination skills, with proven ability to manage several projects at one time and achieve tasks within time constraints.  Strategic planner with an eye for detail and strategy construction. Excellent communicator, negotiator and presenter; experienced speaker through client presentations and workshops; invited guest speaker by CPA Australia at local discussion groups. Enthusiastic and motivated individual with a can do attitude with a dedicated work ethic and a high level of professionalism. 

Excellent resource investigating skills via utilisation of contacts and development of relationships.

Jacqueline Graham

Director of Marketing
and Vice President  

Club: BPW Melbourne – VIC

Jacqueline is a Retail Executive of over 20 years’ experience and currently working for the Bunnings Group as Area Manager with strategic and operational leadership, including National Operations.

She is a graduate of the Royal Society of Chemistry and Strategic Retailing (William & Mary School of Business, 2013), Managing in Crisis and Change (Harvard Executive Education, 2012), Innovation in the Workplace (Swinburne, 2014) and Certificate in Business Management Coaching (IMS, UK, 2007)

Jacqueline is a Member of the National Association of Women in Operations and an Associate Member of AHRI

She is passionate about continuous improvement and building team capability. My belief is that innovation in thought and practice is best delivered by inclusive and diverse teams. I am a committed mentor and coach; driven by culture and change. 

Perla Soberon Brittle

Director of Membership 

Club: BPW Adelaide – SA

Perla has been a member of BPW Adelaide for many years, occupying a variety of Club and State positions, and is committed to the values and objectives of BPW Australia and BPW International. She is a member of the BPWA Agnes Robertson Fund Committee.

As Director of Membership Perla brings very strong skills in communication and negotiation and the ability to ‘think outside the box’ due to her background in public relations, human resources and cultural diversity. 

Currently, Perla is working for a not-for-profit NGO in the Human Resources area as well as running her own microbusiness providing business services.

She is a Fellow of the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers and a Member of the Australia Institute of Company Directors. Academic qualifications Bachelor in Political Sciences (Honours equivalent) Jesuit University of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Elena Rorie

Director of Policy 

Club: BPW Adelaide - SA

Elena Rorie has more than 15 years’ experience at both strategic and operational levels as an HR Manager and Consultant. She holds a Masters in HR Management from the University of South Australia (UNISA) and extensive experience within the industry, nationally and internationally. Elena holds a Bachelor in Social Communication and Public Relations from the National School of Political and Administrative Studies, Bucharest, Romania. She is also a Certified Professional Manager and Associate Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management.

Elena is a member of the Centre for Human Resources Management at the University of South Australia, which keeps her abreast of developments in human resources research, policy, and current trends. She is a member and a Certified Professional with the Australian Human Resources Institute and she is using her passion for human resources management to act as a change agent in the contemporary workplace environment.

Elena understands the many challenges in Australian workplaces that need to be faced and overcome in order to support women to achieve gender equality and maintain a reasonable work-life balance, while continuing to develop and further their professional careers.



 Dr Janis Shaw

Immediate Past President

Club: BPW Darwin – NT

Janis first joined BPW Darwin more than ten years ago and has a strong commitment to the goals and values of BPW Australia and BPW International. As BPWA President, Janis brings a leadership style characterised by organisational skill, strategic planning and cooperative negotiation.

Janis Shaw was the Director of Leadership and Organisational Culture at Charles Darwin University until 2015, having worked at Director level in the Federal and Territory public sectors Janis brings a wide range of governance, community engagement and management skills to her working life and volunteer activities, and has significant capability in strategic, financial and people management in large organisations.

Janis is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management and a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Academic qualifications:
PhD in Epidemiology ANU
Honours Degree in Psychology ANU.

As Immediate Past President of BPW Australia, Janis will remain on the National Board for twelve months offering her experience to both the Executive team and Representatives during transition.
